About the "Like the Video" inducing the Like button highlight effect, from my Chrome PC Browser, it inconsistently works. It sometimes highlights it, it sometimes doesn't. This time it didn't.

WoW was always like the Pop Music of MMOs, it wasn't better than OSRS, but its what everyone listened to, so it's what everyone listened to.

It's like how every generation says "the music was better when I was younger" and in the case of OSRS that's because it literally was.

This was painful to listen to There is a clear message that explains why you can't put on the different weapon and its not that complicated that certain skills are locked to specific weapon types For example if there is a skill where you slam the ground and it creates an earthquake, you wouldn't be able to slam the ground with lets say a wand or dagger.... not that complex BUT the game has a literal message on screen that explains it to you if you would take a few seconds and read - Some skill gems will not work if this weapon is unequipped to swap items remove the following skill gems - YES ARPGs are not made for brainlets

i started playing OSRS the last 8 days, after 20 years of WoW on and off. Im sure ill get tired of it at some point, but man its insane how much better it feels. Yes, the graphics are absolute shit. But its so easy to overlook when you get sucked into such great gameplay. Im kind of dumbfounded how into it ive been. I figured i'd hate it. Having a goal of getting skills to 99 feels so nice. WoW had no real goals like that. Get max level, do some raids and pvp. Meh. I just wish they would overhaul the graphics on OSRS, and keep literally everything else the same. I feel like it wouldn't be terribly hard to do.

Sadly quests pre 2007 have been edited by Jagex.

I told my wife i have no time to watch any shows with her, but then proceed to watch an hour of Jimmy. 10/10 will watch another one.

Honestly, the by release series made me wanna make an iron and attempt to get the quest cape. Jimmy made it seem like it's so much fun.

There’s probably a bunch of people in the comments already saying this, but it frustrated me so much I needed to vent it myself. The whole section about weapons was just so painful to watch. I get as a new player it’s hard to understand the nuances of things like skill gems, stats, and weapon requirements, but the complaints about these in this video was just so irritating. You said that it would be made easier if they had a tooltip that told you it required a club, but it literally already does exist and you saw it multiple times in the play through. Even as you were running into the issue of not being able to use a sword, you were scrolling through your skills trying to identify the problem and not even realizing that the skills literally say “requires: one handed mace, two handed mace”. It was right there in front of your face the whole time. The issue could have been resolved just by reading, which is the one thing you stated you spent a majority of your playthrough doing. If they did what you recommended, a proficiency system, then not only would that completely uproot how the skill gem system works as a whole but it would create a whole new problem where now you CAN equip a weapon that doesn’t use that skill, and you CAN attack with it, but now you deal no damage and have no idea why because again you haven’t read anything about the skill requirements. TLDR: For almost every complaint about Poe and Poe 2, just remember reading is fundamental.

As an engineer who works for a big corporation I can state that why OSRS worked is solely due to getting a customer oriented and committed team working for the project "OSRS". The higher ups do not see the legacy products that have already made the money for the corporation as something that they want to focus on which is a shame. And that as well is the reason for the downfall of the old school version of WoW I am sure that the old school version of WoW did not get the love and care that the OSRS got from the developers due to the bureaucracy that dominates big industries.

man i binged all four of these videos and it's got me heated yelling at my monitor (respectfully). Anything beyond F2P has not hit me with nostalgia in so long also highly recommend Marstead's video on why runescape is awesome (and not an mmo) if you havent seen it because i think a lot of what he has to say about the game and the quests really support your points here

OSRS is just the perfect game where you can do both of playing it on a side monitor and making progress and then doing things that take a lot of focus and also progress. No other game is really like it other than like cookie clicker or something.

RS3 is finally finishing up the Menaphos quest line, it was quite a dry spell

The end of by release should have a blqck screan with "by release" graphic on it, than a "e" fade into it after the y to make "bye release" than a question mark fade in at rhe end, and another slide with "by releasr will be back" for any future relseases

Maybe in some other side "By Release" things you could do the bosses in order going for a clog or green log, or even minigames in order of how they came out if you were looking for more stuff to do with the account to maybe gear your self better for future quests/content

Edit: Ah you kinda answered this near the end. I should have been patient and waited to comment lol. I know you've said multiple times that you're not touching RS3 at least in the same context. But have you as "Quest Man," in your dips into RS3, looked into how RS3 took the story? I imagine if you have you don't like how much of a big deal they turn your character into but I still think they're really well done. I think quests are one of the best things the devs do in RS3 as well. Quest cape was the first cape I got on my untainted RS3 account and I'm still up to date on being able to wear it today. So it's really interesting to me to see how OSRS is taking questlines that RS3 has already established and putting their own spin on things but it's still similar in a way. Some of the models are even basically the same just OSRSified like Dr Banakin looks exactly the same in RS3 but his name is Dr Nabanik. Actually curious why they did that. I don't really play OSRS but I randomly found the According to J1m and I've been watching ever since. Keep up the stellar work man. Thanks for all the videos.

it's wild how mainsteam asmon has become, i still remember him in wow as the toxic mount hoarder that would do anything, and i mean ANYTHING to get every and all mounts and straight up erase any one one else who dared to need roll the mount roll he wanted. i'm still salty on that one dungeon that dropped that..... was it blue proto dragon? had his crew harassing me for months because i rolled it on random dungeon que. For good half year or so i couldnt partake in the pubilc raids because his possy had me black listed.

I've said for a few years now that I much prefer your non-By Release videos over your By Release videos. They're all great, but I think what you have to say is a lot more interesting and/or funny than the By Release videos, and I'm really happy to see you make more of it.

Directors explanation of why they don't have CC was just pure bullshit. They clearly just don't know how to do it and it's a cope statement. The value they add to the game/players experience is the point. Devs using CC for npc's is literally the side bonus, not the point of. This bullshit notion of "well once you put armour on..." well if that's the case, why bother caring about the characters look in the first place? Also, not every armour SHOULD cover you. I WANT to see my characters face. That's what makes them feel UNIQUE when they are. Why did you even bother having a separate female model/male model to the other one if you say it doesn't matter? Infact, character creators usually have 1 male and 1 female model with different stuff you can change with regards to proportions etc. Modeling 12 different humans seems like more/similar effort? That response just smacks of "we dunno how to do it/are lazy". If they modeled 2 bodies with 12 faces instead and let you adjust proportions/skin tone, players would love this alot more than what you're giving them. I genuinely think having character customization options in a game is more important for the game as a first step before any other content. Entire games often sell on their character creation alone. Dragon's Dogma 2 literally released purely it's character creator as marketing for the game. Every game that has CC benefits from it. IF everyone who played Dark Souls and picked Knight looked like the same exact guy a certain amount of pride and ownership of your character wouldn't be there. What's more stupid about all this, is PoE is a top down game. A generic, one size fits all CC system would make MORE sense in a game where it's harder to see your character than custom bespoke individual character models you're locked into. It's also a game where it's designed for you to see all the other players in your town. Isn't it fuckin stupid that it's just a town filled with literal clones?
